Invasive Species Awareness Program
The negative impact of invasive species threatens the quality of life for us all. For those of us in cottage country, several organizations are working to broaden awareness and stop the spread of these harmful fish, micro-organisms, plants, fungi, invertebrates, animals and diseases.
The GLPOA Conservation Committee works in conjunction with the Federation of Ontario Cottager’s Association (FOCA), the Coalition of Haliburton Owners’ Associations (CHA), Ontario’s Invading Species Awareness Program as well as the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters program to update all GLPOA members with best conservation practices and concerns. Early detection and response can increase the chance of eradication and reduce the cost of control management of invasive species. The Ontario Invasive Species Act of 2015 regulates and prohibits a number of invasive species such as Asian Carp and Phragmites.
