Paleolimnology
Limnology is the study of the biological, chemical, and physical features of lakes and other bodies of fresh water. Paleolimnology is a scientific sub-discipline whose studies focus on reconstructing the past environments of inland water (lakes and streams) using their geological records.
In 2015 Dr Brent Wolfe and Dr Roland Hall and their graduate students from the University of Waterloo and Wilfred Laurier University in Ontario chose Growler Lake for a paleolimnological study. Essentially their results revealed that the greatest historical period of stress put upon the health of n Growler Lake occurred during a hundred year period of logging that ended in the late twentieth century. As of 2015, cottage construction and ownership had not adversely affected lake health. It is the fervent hope of all GLPOA members that through best practices of GLPOA owners and their guests that the pristine conditions of Growler Lake will be enjoyed for many decades to come.
